Fiber Optic Cable and Adapter

Fiber optic cable permits data transmission over longer distances and at higher data rates than other cables, with the help of fiber optic converters and fiber optic adapters. Copper-based Ethernet cables, such as Cat5e and Cat6, have a maximum distance of about 300 ft. With an Ethernet fiber converter, you have the potential of up to 1.2 miles. We offer ST fiber optic converters and SC fiber optic converters. Fiber optic wires come in many different specifications. There is single mode fiber optic cable, multimode fiber optic cable, duplex fiber optic cable, simplex fiber optic cable, and different core sizes. We carry many fiber optic cables terminated in various lengths, with the main fiber connection types of SC, ST, LC, FC and MTRJ. The most common core sizes are 9/125, 50/125, and 62.5/125, which are all measured in microns. Single mode fiber optic cable has a smaller core (9/125 microns) and sends a single mode of light. Multimode fiber optic cable has a larger core, and sends multiple modes of light. Simplex and duplex are additional descriptive terms that are added to multimode or singlemode cables that mean one or two cable runs. For example, ST to ST multimode duplex fiber optic cable 62.5/125 would be two fiber optic cables with multimode duplex fiber optic 62.5/125 micron cores and ST connectors. LC to LC single mode duplex fiber optic cable 9/125 would be two fiber cables with 9/125 micron cores and LC fiber optic connectors. For long runs of fiber optic cable, we offer bulk fiber. Plenum bulk fiber will pass building inspections for cables installed in the plenum area between floors of buildings. Our bulk fiber optic wire is not terminated with a fiber optic connector.
